Jacques was a customer support operations lead at a software company, managing support teams and writing product documentation. His job was training new people — teaching them how to answer user questions, handle complaints, maintain the brand voice.
"AI didn't kill my job immediately. It just meant most of my work became training AI to do what humans used to do."
In early 2025, his company brought in an AI chatbot. First handling simple FAQs, then medium-complexity queries. Jacques complained but cooperated — the company required everyone to "embrace AI." His team, which had won G2's "Best Support" award, was slowly absorbed.
Thanksgiving week, he was cut. "The AI was trained to be 'good enough.'"
His biggest worry isn't just about himself: "I don't know how entry-level developers, support reps, or writers are supposed to become senior — because the jobs where you learn by doing don't exist anymore."
He moved to Mexico because the cost of living is lower. "It's dark out here, bro."
