Kaitlin Cort used to spend her days writing code. Now she spends them answering emails from people whose jobs are being eaten by AI.
In February 2026, Cort founded What We Will, a resource center for tech workers affected by layoffs and industry transformation. She gets at least ten new applications every day. Some people have just been laid off and need help understanding their severance. Others are still employed but watching their roles shrink and morph as AI tools take over more of the work. Many are asking for help unionizing.
"We just, as an industry, don't have a guild," Cort said in an interview. "We don't have regulations or standards that are really shared."
